Since the inception in 1983, CAACO has focused on celebrating our traditional festivals. We celebrated new year gatherings with dinner & staged programs, planned summer picnics in state parks, had autumn moon festivals in the state atrium, Jeffery Mansion with dinner & dancing. We had occasionally scheduled talks on citizenship, health related topics, subjects concerning changing geopolitical studies, historical events, and helped host China/America business conferences. In coordination with the city event we invited kite masters from China, taught children from 8 local schools making their own kites and flying at the end of class period. We collaborated with ProMusica Chamber Orchestra to promote Chinese musicians for Chinese Schools and their parents, and again in cooperation with OCA for members of both of our organizations. And we have collaborated with OSU Medical Heritage Center by exhibiting Chinese Medicinal Plants direct from the Henan Chinese Traditional Medicine College and the China Pharmaceutical University, School of Chinese Traditional Pharmacy in the city of Nanking. The exhibited items were supported in part with donations from Asian Festival and OSU East Asian Studies Center. The exhibit was strengthened with a lecture introducing Chinese Medicine by Dr. David Wang. Eighty-one people came for the opening lecture. The next collaborated project is “Sky Sculpture: Traditional Kites of Asia” April 17-May 13, 2009, at the Upper Arlington City’s Concourse Gallery, sponsored by project partners the Drachen Foundation, Franklin County Commissioners, The Ohio State University’s Institute for Chinese Studies and Wright State University’s Asian/Hispanic/Native American Center. Kite Artist Jingfei Li from Yunnan Province will be coming here to conduct workshops for school children.
